File Folder Gift Pouch: Make Art and a Gift Folder

June 27, 2019

Lately I find myself trying new paper activities, like this file folder gift pouch. I paint more, try watercolor, alcohol ink, and art journaling.

This project is the result of a course by artist Roben Marie. Booklet Bundles of Joy involves making your own paper using watercolor, tissue paper, collage techniques, stitching and more. This creates a nice supply of dimensional paper that makes for some very fun paper projects.

And, we even did some paper quilting!

Because I’m a scrapbooker at heart, my bundles are little mini albums and pocket notebooks that are decorative.

The File Folder Gift Pouch Project is So Easy!

In addition to my little bundles, I loved Roben’s idea for the art folder gift pouch and I just had to make my own!

This involves covering a standard 2-inch pouch file folder (like this one) with my handmade paper. Next comes decorating and filling it up with goodies. What makes it even more fun is the goodies are inside vellum inserts, and they are full of stitching, tabs, and Washi tape to give them a pretty presentation. My pouch has all kinds of paper goods stuffed inside as a gift for a friend. A personalized card is tucked in the front at just the right height to poke out at the top.

Because I love vellum, I have it in all colors in my stash. Just fold a sheet in half and either stitch the sides, or do as I did and close up with Washi Tape. The top tabs make it easy to grab them out and look pretty poking over the top of the file folder.

Here’s some of the goodies I put inside my inserts: one of the painted paper bundles, handmade alcohol ink cards, a reused plastic pouch from my Studio Calico subscription full of fun stickers, and bird paper clips. I also added a handmade mini album and a couple fun paper pads.

This is a really easy and fun project and I plan to make it again. And I’m even thinking how fun it would be to get this beauty in the mail inside a clear pouch!

I’ve taken a few of Roben Marie’s online classes and enjoyed them. Plus, I like classes that give me new techniques I can use over and over and apply to my scrapbooking and love of paper projects. This one certainly does that.
