100 Day Project

May 5, 2018

This year I am participating in the 100 Day Project that happens online. It’s an effort to make art (or do just about anything really) for 100 days. The goal is to commit to making for 100 days to practice, expand and explore your craft. There is a lot of inspiration out there, particularly on instagram. While this year’s official event began April 3, there’s no rule about doing it. Start your own 100-day time frame and just create!

I’m no artist, but I love mixed media supplies. I want to use them more in my crafting and venture into art journaling, too. Scrapbooking is my first love and I want to incorporate other techniques into the projects I do. So first up is my 100 day project to learn more about watercolor.

My project is making 4″x6″ cards each day with a watercolor background treatment and a word that represents the day. I am also writing a little story around the edges of the cards about why I chose the word or what it means for that day. A welcome addition to doing this project is its also making me practice lettering. The outcome is not always pretty…but I’m practicing.

One thing I really like about doing this project is I challenge myself each day to get it done in 15 minutes. I sit down with no plan and start painting. While the card is drying I decide on my word. This is a big deal, because I have a tendency to overthink anything I do and put too much pressure on myself to “make it perfect,” so this is giving me practice to deviate from that habit.

I hope you’ll try a 100 Day Project. It’s fun!
