Making A Stitched Mini Scrapbook Album

August 2, 2016

A popular way to put together mini albums is using rings. But if you want an album that is more book like, try hand stitched mini scrapbook album. Today I’m sharing my easy peasy process for making the base of a the mini album. You can sit down with an idea and be off and running on creating something memorable in less than an hour, like this baby album I created this past week. Trust me, anyone on any skill level can do it.

Steps for a stitched mini scrapbook album

I begin by choosing the family of papers I want to use, comparing how the colors and patterns look with each other. Making a book demands two-sided paper, and I think planning out how they coordinate in the book is critical to a nice looking album. Mixing patterns and solids is a good idea, too, because it doesn’t get too visually busy.

Cut the papers to different widths and heights to create an interesting presentation on the inside. (However, if you prefer them to all be the same size, just make the interior pages 1/8″ narrower so they sit inside the cover paper).

Next, add envelopes, half sheets or vellum, because it really adds to the texture and beauty of it, making it a truly one-of-a-kind album.

Then, consider the half point and score the papers to get a nice fold. Layer the papers in order and clip them together. I use clothespins for this part of the process to keep them from slipping. Use a paper punch to make the holes in the spine. You can use a template or just eyeball it – but make sure the holes aren’t too close because it will act like perforation and just come apart.

The last step is to straight stitch with embroidery floss and hide the ends in the stitches.

Done!

It’s a simple binding, but don’t worry because it holds up very well. I’ve used this process for making all kinds of stitched mini scrapbook albums. In minutes you (or the lucky individual you gift this to) has a beautiful memento to celebrate a vacation, wedding, or new baby. So, get your paper out and start making mini’s!
