In addition to making patriotic decorations like the door display and paper boat place cards, I decided to be creative with patriotic food ideas, too!
Start any patriotic day with star pancakes and fruit skewers. They are easy to make with a standard star cookie cutter, and kids love to skewer the fruit.
I made a fruit-topped cake using a basic butter pound cake, topping each layer with homemade whipped cream and fresh fruit. Add an entire bottle of sprinkles to the cake to give it some red, white and blue festive flair. Slice peaches, strawberries, and blueberries, add a couple teaspoons of sugar and a little water and mix. Once they have created some juice, pour on the cake and let it soak in. Then top with whipped cream and the fruit.
A red, white and blue cocktail was a fun addition. It had a red strawberry daiquiri layer, a coconut and rum daiquiri white layer and a blue curacao and hypnotiq vodka layer. You mix each layer and then spoon each into the glasses. Pretty and tasty!
My daughter also made brownies and we put lots of cream cheese frosting and 2-color icing.
